Seasonal Permaculture

  • The Common Knowledge Centre Kilfenora V95DK38 (map)

If you’re interested in growing your own organic food, it’s time to get your hands dirty.

Who is this course for?

If you’ve been dreaming of growing your own food at home. This course is for you. Permaculture is a holistic design philosophy and ecological approach that seeks to create sustainable, resilient, and regenerative systems for humans, agriculture, and ecosystems. Permaculture’s three core ethics of Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share, fit perfectly with the Common Knowledge ambitions of living a truly sustainable life.

What will you learn?

Our four part course is designed to guide and support you throughout the seasonal year.

It is an exploration of Permaculture principles and practices, as they apply to each of the seasons. Local experts will teach the concepts, strategies, and practical hands-on activities needed to help participants integrate permaculture into their own lives and landscapes.

By learning how to design and maintain sustainable, regenerative, ecosystems and garden spaces we become more in tune with the changing patterns of nature.

  • Organic food growing methods for Autumn

  • How to save your own seeds

  • Harvesting techniques

  • How to forage safely and responsibly

  • Fermentation and food preservation processes

  • Animal husbandry

  • How to build with cob

No two seasonal courses will be the same, they are designed to build on the learnings of the previous course. We hope that our course participants will come back season after season and follow the course path, as we build a community of like minded people who can support each other through their permaculture journeys.

What will you take away?

After the weekend you will leave with:

  • A tray full of sown vegetable seeds.

  • A jar of foraged fermented sauerkraut.

  • Printed notes and resources.

How is the course structured?

Friday evenings will be an introductory session on permaculture principles and ethics, and a recap of the previous seasons learnings for any new arrivals. If you’ve been to one Friday session then you won’t need to attend the succeeding ones.

Saturday and Sunday will be a mix of indoor lessons, and plenty of hands-on practical sessions in our 50 acre outdoor classroom!

What’s included?

The course fee of €380 covers tuition, the use of tools and materials, and two wholesome and nutritious daily meals each day curated by our on-site chef, as well as tea, coffee and cake when it is most needed.
