Build Your Own Sauna

  • The Common Knowledge Centre Kilfenora V95DK38 (map)

Join us for a 5 day intensive sauna building course where we will start with a field and end with a sweat. We’ll bring you through all of the steps involved in timber frame building, insulating and furnishing a beautiful sauna out in our bog.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who has a desire to build their own sauna inside or outside, on a trailer or on a lake, this is the course for you. As with most of our courses at Common Knowledge, we have designed this one to accommodate both beginner and experienced builders, so no prior building knowledge is necessary to attend.

You can also purchase this course as a gift here.

What will you learn?

Throughout the 5 days you will learn about:

  • Foundations: Learn how to create appropriate footings for your structure.

  • Structure: Learn the fundamentals of building with timber.

  • Roofing: Material options and rainwater collection.

  • Insulation: Appropriate insulation and installation.

  • Finishes: Appropriate interior and exterior cladding and waterproofing.

  • Furniture: Built-in furniture options.

  • Heating: Different heating options and their benefits.

What will you take away?

After your week here you will:

  • Have hands-on experience with the materials, tools and skills needed to build a timber-framed structure.

  • Have specific knowledge relating to the construction, insulation and finishing of a sauna.

  • Leave with a detailed design and materials list to allow you to replicate the sauna at home.

How is the course structured?

Each day starts with a wholesome breakfast from 8.30am and lunch is served at 1pm. There will be a mix of complimentary theory and practical elements each day, with an emphasis on the practical. We will aim to have the structure as finished as possible within the 5 days so that we can all reap the benefits on Friday evening with a well-earned sweat!
