Discover the artistry and joy of weaving your own scarf in our immersive workshop on a traditional loom.

If you’re curious about delving into the rich history of weaving and creating something handmade for yourself or as a gift, this could be the course for you.

 

What will you learn?

From setting up the warp to weaving the weft, embark on a creative journey where colours, textures, and individual expression intertwine. This course will cover:

  • The fundamentals of weaving, including an introduction to the rigid heddle loom and its historical significance.

  • Step-by-step instructions on setting up and winding the warp, laying the foundation for your scarf.

  • Techniques for weaving the weft, embracing the freedom to experiment with colors and textures on our traditional samplet loom.

  • Guidance on problem-solving and troubleshooting common weaving challenges, ensuring a smooth and fulfilling creative process.

How is the course structured?

Like all Common Knowledge courses, the weekend is bookended and punctuated with delicious food and locally roasted coffee. The class begins with an introduction to the Rigid Heddle Loom, an affordable and accessible piece of equipment which will empower you to start dreaming in warps and wefts. We’ll cover the basic techniques and various different patterns that have been popularised over the years before starting work on your own scarf.

Day 2 will be making under the guidance of your instructor, being able to troubleshoot, ask questions and push your limits of what you think might be possible and achievable.

 

What’s included?

The course fee of €380 covers tuition, the use of tools and materials, and two wholesome and nutritious daily meals each day curated by our on-site chef, as well as tea, coffee and cake when it is most needed.
