Walking on haunted ground: Stories of the supernatural from the Cuimhneamh an Chláir archives

As part of our Samhain events at Common Knowledge we are delighted to host Cuimhneamh an Chláir (Clare Memories) to present a workshop drawing from their archives, collected through the decades around the county. This event will focus on stories the supernatural, with appearances of the cóiste bodhar, giant hares, banshees, and being "put astray" in the field at night by unknown forces. The archive will reveal tales the sí gaoithe, ghosts, and other piseog's, told directly from the mouths of Clare people, for some of whom the existence of the supernatural has always been intertwined with normal life.

To accompany this showcase, there will be a short note on the wider history of Samhain and its place in the Irish cultural landscape. We encourage everyone to come with their own stories to share - it will be a night of plenty of chat.

The event will be hosted by Micheál Mac Gearailt who is a volunteer with Cuimhneamh an Chláir for a number of years, interviewing people throughout the county. He is a recent graduate of Celtic Languages at Utrecht University, and is now completing an MSc in Archaeological Science at Leiden University.

This event will be follow by our Céilí Samhain with Louise O Connor and her band. The evening includes a ceili, traditional music, songs and a bonfire. Get your tickets here - https://app.tickettailor.com/events/commonknowledge/1423291
