On this course we will cover:
The basic rules for good, ergonomic kitchen design and layout
The fundamental components used in kitchen construction
Suitable materials for kitchen construction
Joinery methods needed to create a strong carcass and drawers
Methods used to install and adjust doors and drawers
The tools needed to produce and repair your kitchen cabinets
Countertop options
Finishing techniques
What will you take away?
In addition to your new knowledge, you will leave with a standard or custom-sized kitchen carcass with a soft-close door or drawer.
How is the course structured?
We start each day with breakfast at 8:30am and eat lunch together at 1pm.
On Saturday morning we will cover fundamental kitchen design principles and take a look at some of the materials we will be working with. We will take a look at the tools and techniques needed to construct our carcasses and create a cut-list. After lunch we will start making cuts and assembling the carcasses and drawers.
On Sunday we will continue the assembly of the carcasses and installation of the drawers and doors. We will also look at countertop and finishing options.
What’s included?
The standard course fee of €400 covers tuition, the use of tools and materials, and two wholesome and nutritious daily meals each day curated by our on-site chef, as well as tea, coffee and cake when it is most needed.

At The Common Knowledge Centre we now have a range of accommodation options on site to suit all budgets and needs. When you stay with us, you’ll be supporting our newly established guesthouse and be close to the action. We recommend arriving the evening before your course. We will provide you with a loan of a hi-visibility vest for use when on-site. For your own safety, no loose-fitting clothing or shorts are permitted, and you should wear long sleeves when in the workshop.
The following site and safety gear is required and mandatory to participate in the course:
Protective gloves
Safety glasses
Dust Mask
Ear defenders
Pencil
Measuring tape
Square (carpenter’s, builder’s or similar)
