Get Your Home Winter-Ready with Our DIY and Repair and Home Workshops

Get ready to tackle all those little jobs round the house

MIND BLOWN! I’m not averse to DIY but still…. Mind blown…. Used plane saw, circular saw, mitre saw, cut tiles, tiled, learnt SO MUCH about my drill that I have had for 10 years and used a decent amount of time…. This course is worth every € and more…. A whole lifetime worth of skills learnt in 2 days in my 50’s! I am so appreciative. Elaine did it with so much passion and energy and humour and patience and she is just amazing. Zack also a treasure! Highly highly highly recommend! And it is not expensive.

We know it might feel a tad early to mention winter, but we’re here to make sure both you and your home are ready before the chilly weather sets in. With those cosy evenings and festive gatherings fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to get on top of those little DIY jobs you’ve been putting off all year.

You know the ones—wobbly shelves, leaky taps, squeaky cupboard doors, or those gaps that let in the cold wind. Individually, they may seem minor, but together, they can add to the stress of getting your home ready for the winter months. Don’t let the build-up of small tasks leave you scrambling at the last minute - why not take a weekend to brush up on your DIY skills and tackle them before the frost arrives?

If you're not sure where to begin, or you just need a bit of motivation, our two upcoming DIY and Repair at Home weekend workshops in October and November are just the thing. Whether you’re completely new to DIY or just looking to gain a bit more confidence, this hands-on course will give you the skills to fix up your home in no time.

You'll have the confidence to tackle any job after one of our upcoming weekend courses in DIY and Repair at Home

Why Now?

Winter can be busy enough without worrying about a squeaky cupboard or that drafty door that you’ve been meaning to fix for months. Imagine how satisfying it would be to enjoy the season, with your home snug and everything in its place, without that last-minute scramble to sort out unfinished DIY projects. No more stress, no more leaky taps to deal with while you’re trying to cook Christmas dinner (yes we said Christmas in October, but we’re just mentioning it to get you festive season ready) just a well-prepared home, ready to welcome friends and family.

Our weekend course is designed to give you hands-on experience with practical, everyday repairs. You’ll learn how to fix up those little imperfections around the house, whether it’s patching a wall, replacing tiles, or sorting that rattling door handle. By the time you’re finished, you’ll feel more confident in your ability to keep your home in good working order, not just for the winter, but all year round.

I wanted to be able to do things for myself around the house. This course definitely delivered on that. I really valued the mixture between demos and hands-on sessions. The Instructors (Elaine & Cian) were so patient and answered every question and query asked of them. I was very impressed. Now - to get doing

The trainers Elaine and Zack were spectacular. Bursting with knowledge they were generous, pragmatic and kind. I was particularly impressed with Elaine’s way of providing a wide scope of information. She would explain simple and complex things with equal respect and detail. No question was considered stupid; everyone was included.

WEEKEND COURSE

DIY and Repair at Home

19 -20 October, 16 - 17 November

What you’ll learn

Over the weekend, our friendly Common Knowledge team will guide you through the essential skills to help you with common household tasks. Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • Drills 101: Learn how to use a drill properly, understand the difference between drilling and driving, and how to pick the right bit for the job.

  • Creating shelves: Get hands-on with timber, learning to measure, mark, and cut with accuracy using both hand tools and power tools. By the end, you’ll have made a shelf you can take home.

  • Joining wood: We’ll teach you how to use a pocket hole jig – a handy tool for joining wood – perfect for DIY furniture projects or quick fixes around the house.

  • Affixing to walls: Whether it’s a heavy picture frame or a new shelf, we’ll show you how to safely hang items on different types of walls. No more guessing if it’ll stay up!

  • Basic plumbing repairs: From fixing that leaky tap to clearing a blocked u-bend, we’ll cover the basics so you can handle minor plumbing issues without calling in help.

By the end of the course, you’ll have learned a wide range of practical skills and built a timber shelf to take home – perfect for that spot in your living room you’ve been eyeing for a while.

What will you take away?

After the weekend you will leave with:

  • A timber shelf and brackets that you have made yourself.

  • The confidence to embark on your own furniture making projects at home, like building a bespoke bookshelf, designing and building a side table, repairing damaged furniture.

  • Connection to other likeminded learners and friends you have yet to meet.

How is the course structured?

We will start with covering some of the basic ideas and principles behind furniture designs and making, then get a feel for the tools we will be using before beginning to create our own hardwood stools. Each day starts with breakfast from 8.30am, and we will eat lunch together each day.

What’s included?

The course fee of €380 covers tuition, the use of tools and materials, and two wholesome and nutritious daily meals each day curated by our on-site chef, as well as tea, coffee and cake when it is most needed.
